This website and its translations, are dedicated to the lay Buddhist meditation master Nan Huaijin (南怀瑾), pictured at the right. In his early years, Nan was a military commander during the second Sino-Japanese War, stationed in Sichuan, Xikang, and Yunnan. In Sichuan, Nan led an offensive against the Japanese. After some time teaching at a military school in Sichuan, Nan then resigned from the military. In his mid-twenties, his enlightenment was verified by Master Yuan Huanxian (袁焕仙). For the next several years, Nan lived as a hermit on Mount Emei, studying the Chinese Buddhist Canon extensively and practicing meditation. Following the war, he was offered a key government position, but turned it down in order to continue his focus on Buddhist practice. At this time, Nan travelled to Qinghai and Tibet to seek out lesser known masters. During his time in Tibet, his enlightenment was verified by Kunga Khutuktu of the Kagyu sect, who gave him the title “Vajra Master” (vajrācārya). With the onset of the revolution in China, Nan left for Taiwan, becoming a well-known university professor and author. Nan has since returned to China, and now operates a special school in Miaogang, Jiangsu province.
